another great NOLO product May 20, 2010 Tell It Like It Is (good ole USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Every NOLO book I've ever picked up has been very helpful and practical. This volume maintains the tradition. Very clear and pertinent advice for people going through the tragedy of divorce at an older age with special attention directed toward specific issues more common to folks over 50. Certainly not definitive (you'll still need a good attorney) but an excellent starting point.
Very Readable and Comprehensive May 10, 2010 LindyB (Austin, Texas) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book is a godsend. It's very readable without being condescending or using legalese. It covers all the topics anyone should think about when getting divorced at an older age - such as how to think about assets and debts, step-children, estate planning and basic survival of a divorce! Fabulous. I highly recommend it.
Another great book from Nolo on divorce May 19, 2010 Nicole S. Urdang (Western New York) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is just great. The survival stories at the end are inspiring and realistic. I wish there had been more of them. For those of you who might want more from the trenches, Janice Green recommends Deidre Bair's book: Calling It Quits: Late Life Divorce and Starting Over, which is a collection of interviews by a woman who was divorced after 43 years of marriage.
There is a plethora of information on all your divorce options, as well as loads of resources on financial matters. All topics are relevant, clear, and mercifully short; though, not so short they are glossed over. The whole book is designed to help you make informed decisions. All of this could have been dry as a bone, but Nolo finds authors (or editors?) who are adept at making complicated material accessible. The style is conversational and appealing.

The info you need when facing a tough situation May 27, 2010 Joanna Daneman (Middletown, DE USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Whether or not you desire to divorce, if you are facing this situation in your fifties, there are many consequences, legal, financial and personal that you will want to consider as you work with your legal counsel. Everyone's situation is unique, and your attorney may be working on billable hours, meaning you should have your information, special requirements and questions in order before you go in for a meeting. In the confusion of the personal trauma (and whether or not you want a divorce, and have initiated it, there is trauma) you can forget what you need to know or to ask. This book is a valuable guide and if you are in divorce or considering it, I would strongly advise reading this excellent book. It is NOT a substitute for legal counsel but it is a valuable resource.
Informative June 24, 2010 Orianna (TN, USA) I got this book for my mother, who is currently separated from my father. She is not planning on a divorce at this time, but they are estranged, and she wanted to be prepared should the need arise. My mother tells me that this book is very informative. Being a Nolo book, it's not only extensive, but easy to read, as well. It covers every topic relating to divorce, and even mentions legal separation, all with a special view to persons nearing retirement age or older. It tells you what types of divorces exist, what sort of things you need to be collecting (such as proof of infidelity or abuse) and it may even help you make the all-important decision of whether to get a divorce or a legal separation. It answered questions that my mother didn't know to ask!
Highly recommended if you are middle-aged and find yourself in a situation where divorce might be pending. Get it well in advance, so you can be fully prepared for what you'll go through.
